Goods such as fruit, flowers, vegetables, meat, butter and cheese, need to be transported at a constant low temperature and are therefore packed into a refrigerated container.

Usually high-cube integral units are used and these have a markedly higher market share than porthole or insulated containers. As chilled meat is sometimes also transported, the ceilings of refrigerated containers are equipped with special hook rails so the meat can be neatly hung.
